Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Growing up, I was heavily influenced by the records my Dad left behind after my parents divorced. So it was Bruce Springsteen, Wings, Dire Straits, ELO and Elvis Costello. After that it was the classic 90s Brit pop stuff, The Cure , Blur, Suede, Oasis and then The Killers and some of the other 00’s bands. In more recent years I’ve definitely been heavily inspired by Sam Fender, Gang of Youths and The 1975. Basically anyone who plays guitar and writes an interesting lyric.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I am extremely inspired by the work that Global Citizen does. My wife and I recently completed the building of a 5th school, (the latest in Senegal) and have volunteered at children’s hospitals for nearly 10 years. Using the gift of the Music to raise awareness to make the world a better place is extremely close to my heart and honestly the most fulfilling part of being an Artist. To be able to play the festival and be a small part of this amazing community would be an incredible honor.
What would you do with $50,000?
That is a lot of money and could do so much good in so many communities. My wife and I are currently raising money for another school so my first thought would be to make a large donation towards that project. After that, I would invest some of it into the development of myself and another Artist I work with. I feel so grateful to be involved with the community work that I do and to be able to do it because of music is such an incredible gift.
