Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My true musical inspiration is my passion, rage, anger, sense of injustice, love, vulnerability and desperation for peace. The people who have inspired me, however, are among some of the greats. Vocally: Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Christina Aguilera, and a little Ariana Grande. Writing: Michael Jackson, Tupac, Eminem, Garbage, and Max Martin. Performing (sorry, there are so many categories): Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears (stage presence cannot be denied), and many more.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing would give me a chance to showcase myself as a whole artist. Often times, the audience is simply listening, watching or looking at online content. Performing gives me an opportunity to show you my true self and passion as a live artist. I imagine performing would also open many doors to collaborate with other acts who are inspired by similar causes I am. Art isn't just for profitable consumption. It's a form of protest and opinion. It needs to be fully digested as such.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would finance my music career and ensure it profits. I want to make sure that part of my profits always go to a charitable cause close to my heart. These are causes such as animal equality, human rights, environmental protection, helping overcome class inequality, and resources for those who have experienced a violent crime.
