I understand how genres, old and new, should sound together, and how to make the old emotions accessible in new, albeit familiar, ways.

Q&A

Who or what is your musical inspiration?

I grew up on the melodic, fun-loving, emotionally hard hitting sounds of alt rock, (pop) punk, and emo music. They’ve always made me feel bigger than I was, like I could, and should, do that. My greatest influence, though, would be my father, Dave Loggins, a musical giant of pop/country/singer-songwriterdom, whom we lost last July. It’s an all-time cliche to say, “I’m doing this for him,” but when you lose a parent yourself, the sentiment becomes clearer.

How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?

My father always said that I perform best when my back is against the wall, when there’s nowhere left to go but forward. I view myself as an “all or nothing” sort of artist who aspires to aim big even before he’s captured his sight. This would be a significant move in propelling myself moving towards what I want and deserve. I want to become the person that my younger self always saw in his dreams.

What would you do with $50,000?

I would put it towards getting out of Nashville and starting over somewhere new. I’ve lived in the same place for my entire life, and I’m just looking for that right excuse to leave, to start my life over. To become the artist I seek to be, I need to not only see the world, but live in it. I think that would do wonders for my creativity, for starters.
