Who or what is your musical inspiration?
As someone who spent 18 years in a trailer in a small town in Michigan battling with family dynamics shaped by substance abuse, I find it impossible to not be inspired by the genius that is Eminem. He’s the blueprint for underdog artists in our state who turn struggle into storytelling. He amplified Detroit’s voice globally, something that I hope to do with my city of Lansing. The day I heard “The Way I Am” while playing Grand Theft Auto altered my life forever.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I’m much less concerned about what my performance would do for me than I am about what my performance could do for others. Global Citizen is all about using art to fight back and if my time on the stage could impact even just one person in the audience to stand up and make a change, then my heart is happy. It’s more than a performance, it’s a chance to begin something that really matters. It’s a chance to prove that authenticity belongs.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000 I would build a home studio and content hub, launch a targeted content campaign, fund live shows or a DIY tour, finally repay my family for the years of support they’ve offered my music career, invest in my girlfriend’s electronic dance music career, set aside some money for stability and emergencies, and most importantly, give back to my community through the hosting of free events and equipment donations.
