I want to make people feel understood, hopeful and comforted through my music. I'll be the wind to take the veil of lies from their eyes
Thank you for generously supporting Yasmine Rawlins in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to empower Global Citizen in their mission to eradicate extreme poverty and create a world where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I didn't have an inspiration until I was about 9, but I still know I enjoyed making up tunes in my head. Then I looked up to Taylor Swift. I dealt with a good amount of bullying and ended friendships in high school, which is when I turned to Lana Del Rey. Her being the queen of melancholy made me feel less alone, and I want to give that feeling to others.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I can't lie I would be terrified at first, but since this is something I've wanted literally my whole entire life, I would work so incredibly hard to do amazing. I'd hope that it would bring people closer to me. Closer to the truth of themselves, maybe give them something they've been searching for. A comfort character to turn to when the world is falling all around them. It would also benefit my family and I a lot. I want and need to be successful enough to get us out of this position.
What would you do with $50,000?
I'd invest it into something that would further increase it first. Then, I'd get my mom out of debt. Once I did that, I'd help the rest of my immediate family. Then I'd buy a house in a safe area with some land and become self reliant with food. After that I would keep investing and just donate as much as I could to as much organizations as I could find.
