I’m America’s Next Top Hitmaker because I write music that haunts, heals, and hypnotizes. My music stays like a memory.
Thank you for generously supporting Yula Yoo in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to empower Global Citizen in their mission to eradicate extreme poverty and create a world where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My greatest musical inspiration is my dad. His love for music, ranging from ‘80s Korean ballads, ‘90s hip hop, to The Beach Boys and Carpenters always influenced me. He is a talented singer and naturally impacted my own love for music and singing. It led me to want to write my own songs and eventually taught myself the guitar.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would be a career-defining moment that merges my purpose as an artist with causes I care most about in life. I feel it is my purpose to use my voice and music in service of something bigger, fighting against the ways in which our world has become divided and toxic. Music is powerful and I’ve seen the good in can bring out in others, as a bridge to empathy and connection. I want to dedicate my life to this and perform at the Global Citizen Festival.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I would fund a debut project for my music career that fully encapsulates my vision sonically and visually. I am a first-generation college graduate, so a portion would go towards paying off my student loans which would relieve my family and me. And I would fund hands-on efforts in ending food insecurity both globally and in my hometown, and projects that aim to end climate change for good. I would fund in projects that promote sustainability over over-consumption.
