I quit my job a year ago and risked everything to make music that gives people hope in a world that seems to lose more of it every day.

Who or what is your musical inspiration?
When I was a kid, my Dad was an avid CD collector. He had every Grammy compilation album of all the winners and I wore those discs out. Then as a teenager, my brother introduced me to americana and folk music — Bob Dylan, The Avett Brothers, Ray Lamontagne, etc. As my family began to fall apart, and my own musical voice was formed through the pain of loss, those two traditions of pop and folk have stuck on me like the smell of smoke from a fire.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It's hard to know what impact it would have — I'd be humbled beyond words, and take away the experience and lessons that only that kind of stage can give. I would hope it would be another helping step to my dream of making a living sharing my art with the world — but above all I'd just be grateful to be able to sing for folks in such an important setting.
What would you do with $50,000?
Since I started pursuing music full time, it's been hard financially on my family, but we keep hope alive. $50,000 would go an extraordinarily long way in keeping that hope burning bright. Specifically, it'd help us buy a little more time chasing this dream of mine!
